The Public Benefit Enterprise for Culture and Environment of the Municipality of Chania - Centre for Mediterranean Architecture (KEPPEDIX-KAM) was established in 1997 following the merger of the six Public Benefit Enterprises of the Municipality of Chania. It is housed in Megalo Arsenali in the centre of the port of Chania but is active throughout the prefecture.

 

KEPPEDICH-KAM is active and develops actions in the fields of Culture, Environment and Architecture. It manages cultural sites: Great Arsenal, Sabbionara Gate, Eastern Ditch Theatre, Dimitris Vlisidis Theatre, Koundouros Villa, Peace and Friendship of Peoples Park Theatre, Municipal Cinema "Garden", Lentarian Theatre, Russian Barracks, Environmental Information Centre (within the Municipal Garden), San Salvatore Bastion.

 

Its main purpose is to promote cultural activities such as theatre, music, dance, cinema, opera, painting, sculpture, etc. Its aim is to promote old and new artistic projects and to exploit the cultural and heritage wealth both locally and internationally. The expectation is to become a springboard for new creations and a pole of attraction for artists and the public.

 

It is governed by a Council consisting of the President, the Vice President and 9 members. The premises of the KEPEDH-KAM host workshops and international conferences. Rooms with a capacity of 20 to 400 people are available with all modern equipment.
