"Mikis Theodorakis" - Theater Venue | KEPPEDIH-CAM - Municipality of Chania CRETE INFO The history of the "Old Customs House" begins in the inter-war period, during the presidency of Eleftherios Venizelos, when it was built to serve the commercial needs of the port of Chania before it was transferred to Souda. After many years of efforts to restore and enhance the building, the Old Customs House was transformed into a modern 400-seat theatre with two squares, and in 2017 it was renamed the " Mikis Theodorakis Theatre" in the presence of the composer. The primary purpose of the theatre is to become the home of the Municipal of Crete. However, it functions as a centre for cultural activities and infrastructure has been provided for the hosting of conferences and seminars, such as interpreters' rooms, access for people with disabilities and a press room.
