Mykonos Earth Suites - Architecture

MYKONOS

The 'Mykonos Earth Suites' boutique hotel is located in the "Megali Ammos" area of Mykonos. Liakos Architects and Omniview Design have designed the building with respect to the local architecture and landscape.

The inspiration behind the design approach of the interiors of Mykonos Earth Suites' boutique hotel came from two main elements of traditional Cycladic architecture.

Arches occupy a dominant position in the architectural vocabulary of the Cyclades and their wide application has made them an integral aesthetic element of Aegean architecture. In 'Earth Suites', the arch is exploited by applying modern construction methods to create arches in all passages, referring to the traditional simple architecture of the Cyclades.

The second design principle, also inextricably linked to the Cycladic tradition, is the structural elements inside the rooms. The management of surfaces brings out the sense of continuity in the space. In this typology, either built-in beds or beds made of large pieces of live wood edge in a dark color are found, highlighting the contrast with the white colour of the walls, while the same type of wood is also used in the wardrobes. On the ceiling, facades are created, lined with a trellis made of tree trunks, which create a visual continuity with the trellis on the exterior of the rooms whose colors are reversed.

The design lines of the circular shape dominate the reception area. The reception furniture, the office area, the waiting furniture, and the decorative plant area are made up of circular pieces, while the smooth surfaces alternate with the rock style.
