INFO

The Zappeion Hall is a building associated with some of the most important moments in the country's modern history. The very decision to build it is related to a historic moment not only for Greece but for world sport, the revival of the Olympic Games. The cost of the construction was undertaken by the benefactor Evangelos Zappas, based on a design by the architect Theophilos Hansen. Evangelos Zappas did not live to see the completion of the project. His cousin Konstantinos Zappas was responsible for the implementation of the project.

The Zappeion Hall was inaugurated with great splendour on the 20th of October 1888, hosting the Olympia trade fair. "Today the magnificent Zappeion opens its gates and the exhibition is inaugurated and the last will of the great benefactor of the nation, Evangelos Zappas, is fulfilled, his head resting quietly under the vaults of the palace, which he built for the Greeks". (Acropolis newspaper, no. 2313, 20 Oct. 1888)

As a venue for commercial, industrial and artistic exhibitions, together with its garden, it would become a reference point for Athens and the country with an economic, cultural, social and political role.

Today the Zappeion maintains the glamour and grandeur of the past but at the same time meets the requirements and needs of a modern exhibition and conference venue.

It has 4,546 square meters of halls suitable for exhibitions and conferences as well as a central circular atrium, the Peristyle. The Zappeion Hall is fully equipped with technology to meet the most demanding needs for the perfect organization of conferences.

  1. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across
a blog that’s equally educative and amusing, and without
a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something that not enough men and women are speaking intelligently
about. I’m very happy I stumbled across this in my
hunt for something relating to this.
